| D11-158. SAIL AWAY! The nearly pristine leather case has the famous design of a sailing vessel on both covers and "E. White", the case maker, embossed on the pennant flying at the pinnacle of the main mast. Oh and there is the rather weirdly posed gent inside. His own appearance with that bush for a beard that didn't connect to his sideburns kind of suggests . . . well this caption is getting stranger as I write, don't you think? The subject's neatly manicured nails and thick fingers along with the top of his head were well focused. Also the tablecloth and that book. The remainder of the fellow was slightly soft. Even his pale eyes that searched for the truth in another direction away from the camera's lens were not sharp. The old sixth plate glass was moisture laden underneath, hence those white deposits on the surface that can't be removed. The guy has been restored and he has remarkable depth. I should add that a curtain on the left was in motion while the exposure was taken. There was also a large white cloth, seen as a sliver inside the mat on the right, next to the window that provided light. $95 |
