D12-4. WHAT WAS IT LIKE? I have asked myself that question so many times when I study sitters in their newly sealed sixth plate daguerreotypes. These siblings whose unhappy mouths tell a distinct story that everyone can understand was only a partial revelation I think. WHY were they so sad? Was it the mere presence of a large wooden camera on a tripod, a man they didn't know standing beside it, those cruel head restraints, cautions from at least one parent or the overall experience that dimmed their youthful natural excitement? Was there even more occurring that we can never fathom? I WANT TO GO BACK IN TIME JUST TO WATCH and if possible, interact with the participants. No that isn't a horn at the edge of the lad's head. Just part of the cold iron clamp! You know, I always study my dags in strong light and for the life of me, I don't see all those miniscule white dots, so let me say that their image really is marvelous with deep depth while nestled in a complete leather case. $355
