| EEW-184. AT THE TIME . . . The parents posed with their tiny daughter, who stood between them nervously, the daguerreotypist improperly fixed their archivally taped half plate that was over matted to mimic a 3/4 sized dag. Those milky stains are a telltale example of the problem. Casey quickly recleaned the surface because we both thought they were tendrils of tarnish. The original was given to the family in a wooden frame. When Erin purchased the piece it was loosely sealed, hence the mat marks, but only the wooden backer remained. Obviously, the couple was wealthy enough to afford the impressive likeness. Although dad was way too serious, his cunning daughter and attractive wife make their arrangement compelling. Excellent contrast and reflected depth cause the subjects to leap up from the silvery palette. $485 |
