EEW-232. I THINK . . . A slight reflection in the gent's left lens caused the eye behind it to appear much lighter then the other orb . . . or maybe one was just different! Two striking observations beyond that are the sharpness of focus and that cameo with a female bust in profile the subject selected to attach to his white shirt. I think this retaped sixth plate represents the first time I have seen a man displaying such an adornment in a dag. What WAS his reasoning we might ask when he visited W(illiam) A. Wellman at his Broadway address in New York City between 1855-1858? Wellman had previously had saloons in Charleston and other South Carolina locations. There is a colony of teensy black dots on and above the fellow's right shoulder, along with mat abrasions and some mold spiders. Wellman also polished the plate with a heavy hand in places. He achieved deep depth and nice contrast. Tinting embellished his patron's face. The whole leather case is worn. $225
