EEW-199. "SAMUEL TUTTLE" . . . Sat for his newly sealed sixth size character study that is still vibrant today. Yes, there are a few faint brown spots, one dark dot and a teeny white specks. Also moderate oxidation inside the oval. Sam's pose was nothing out of the ordinary nor would I venture to comment that his clothing was anything but conservative and typical apparel that a moderately successful fellow might have worn in the late 1840s. His pale eyes, craggy face and unusual hair comb up would have set him apart. His maker decided to rouge Mr. Tuttle's face and lips, "Included in the fee good sir", he might have commented. Deep depth and mellow contrast are revealed when his fine leather case with an interesting design is opened. $175
