IN WELLS MAINE. I have watched with great pride and pleasure while Casey has made modern daguerreotypes. I had seen him etch and hand color objects taken in the daguerreian era, circa 1839 to 1865, that were damaged beyond his magical archival restoration powers. Then one morning I came into our barn and found this skillfully manipulated architectural scene. After he creatively altered the silver, he made a thumbprint in the lower left corner and annotated the surface: “CAW taken 5/21/10 etched 7/24/12”. As the 4×5 plate is examined at different angles the character in the lines of the original art change dramatically. The daguerreotype is presented under a uniquely prepared New Hampshire birch bark mat surrounded by a lovely burl wood frame (not shown).
