THREE IN A SECT. Casey restored this marvelous half plate recently. I believe that the three subjects in the foreground were Quaker women posed along with their companions. I won?t begin to guess their relationships. The daguerreotypist created a wonderful holographic representation of his clients. The somber expression on all the females? faces is rather suggestive. Only the gent standing on the right had a semblance of a smile. His male friend on the opposite side was wicked serious in appearance. Beautiful patina surrounds the people in this mid-1850s daguerreotype. Any spots and dots seen were caused over time by deposits leaching out of the old cover glass onto the magnificent mirror! Their leather case has a broken spine.
