A SUPERLATIVE FOLK ART . . . Painting was copied onto a restored half plate daguerreotype that was kept in an over-sized leather case with an adequately repaired leather spine. The original work was quite impressive and the unknown daguerreian used a deft hand to paint much of the surface of his silvery mirror. The daguerreotype was loose for many years and there are mat scrapes near the mat and in places touching the subjects. Dark blue oxidation and many brown spots are on the surface.
