Quarter Plate

THE RED WAX . . . On the reverse, a complete leather case and the style of the brass mat all aided me in dating this substantial gentleman with large lips and pale blue eyes who was placed on a resealed quarter plate at circa 1848. He was a striking character study for sure. Any guesses what his occupation might have been? Too bad his hands were covered by that mat and hidden in the oxidation even when the plate was naked. The subject?s facial features were so strong and prominent that I suspect he was probably very comfortable in his skin. Powerful vibes reverberate from his countenance. There are mat marks and that dig in the silver above his head. The depth is holographic and the tonality was exquisite.
