HIS 19TH CENTURY CADILLAC! If only his daguerreotypist would have had the presence of mind to walk around the rear end of the sulky and set up his camera in front of that fence in the background . . . the clarity and certainly the contrast in this resealed quarter plate daguerreotype would have been so much better. Shooting into the sun directly overhead, even when it was noontime in the summer, created a challenge that was fairly met in this scene. The young swain moved while his dappled gray horse remained impressively calm. The composition inside the oval brass mat worked nicely. Someone made a nice new leather hinge on the case. Inside is an embossed plush purple pad. Any specks and flecks you see don?t affect the over all view.
