THE PROUD FATHER! The mature gentleman was posed in profile on the left side of this spectacular quarter plate portrait that has a new archival seal. He gazed at his son with intense pride for an unknown reason. The younger man was seated looking into the lens with a very happy expression. It is quite unusual to find such wonderful interaction between subjects in their likenesses. Unfortunately, we can only guess at the reason why this late, after 1854, likeness was commissioned. Aside from a few mold spiders, thin patina and a vertical line on the left that totally disappears when the pair are truly admired, this impressive example of the art resonates. The dag is kept in a beautiful push button leather case.
