The gentleman insisted on wearing his tall beaver top hat and his maker accommodated that request when he executed this smashing resealed quarter plate that is kept in a leather case in two parts. His cheeks were touched with red rouge. I am impressed that the daguerreotypist didn’t get highlighted reflections in those spectacles OR did he actually remove the glass lenses for the dag? I wonder if it was an optical illusion or had that massive nose been ?rearranged? previously. No matter where I study his image, my own gaze looks above those tightly clapped turned down lips. Pale patina in places hugs the oval brass mat. Nearly invisible diminutive black marks are visible in a couple places. Mold spiders are more apparent but not a hindrance. The surface is very bright and highly reflective!
