This archivally taped quarter plate by Holmes of New York has some of the loveliest tinting I?ve seen in a while. In fact, when I first caught a glance of it in a dusty case at an antique show, I thought it must be an English image. Nope. This is an American masterpiece. The dag comes in a half case and is resealed. It is in good condition with some little spots and mold spiders here and there, and a larger cluster at the lower right corner. The dag is stamped ?Holmes 289 Broadway? at the bottom center of the mat. I think the pink and green confection on the gothic table is some kind of fern bouquet. The young lad?s skin tones are well captured. I love how the camera captured the crisp wrinkles in his pants.
