A PRIMITIVE PORTRAIT! The daguerreotype was purchased from a family estate in rural New England. The resealed likeness, a sixth plate, was executed circa 1847 possibly by an itinerant operator. There is ample tarnish around the very distraught dad who held his recently deceased child so tenderly in his arms. Pinpricks of green specks dot the lower portion of the plate in places. Heavy buff marks don?t really disappear. The warped partially intact leather case has a delicate roses theme on both covers.
