Since Horatio, Enoch’s brother, passed away in 1851, the impression on the brass mat signifies Enoch was without a partner. He worked alone beginning in 1852 when he operated a gallery in St. Louis. That would have been about the time this lovely young lass wandered into his place of operations to sit for her very dynamic sixth plate daguerreotype that has a new archival seal. The nice mother of pearl case, see second scan, is intact. The subject, her beautiful personality, the perfection of the reproduction and her costume were all so outstanding that the specks and spots produced on the holographic silver are really superfluous.
