HE SAT IN FRONT . . . Of a cloth covered table piled with books when he was posed for this retaped sixth plate portrait. The gent is kept in a complete leather case and was daguerreotyped circa 1849. His erstwhile continence leaps of the nearly perfect plate as those clear blue eyes focused on his maker. His enormous hands, partially mauled by manual labor during his lifetime, anchored the portrait.
