TAKEN ON BROADWAY! I know with 100% certainty that the gent was taken by Matthew Brady, circa 1844 in New York City. The style of the daguerreotype, that tablecloth and those three tinted books were used in several other Brady dags I have acquired through the years. The resealed sixth sized gent is held in a very lovely complete leather case marked ?M. B. Brady Case maker NY? on the cover. The passage of time has not been kind to the surface of the man?s image. Dried water spots caused most of the visual debris on his jacket and striped slacks. There are also a few mold mites and lines of wayward oxidation. At the proper angle of view, it is possible to see nice tinting on the subject?s face and hands. The rather elegant gent must have been pleased with this effort since it has survived the test of time.
