The blue flow on the left occurred the day the lad, who is holding a partially open dag case, was taken on a taped sixth sized dag circa 1845. Casey sometimes has this weird effect occur on his modern dags. The boy stood almost at attention when his portrait was taken. He wore the most heavily starched, stiffest trousers I have seen in an early dag framed by an octagonal paper mat. Talk about a three-dimensional daguerreotype. Accented by a slash of light crossing part of the floorboards the subject stood upon. That weird fabric was covering something and it continued to the right side of the kid too. The complete leather case with a reglued spine has a plain red silk pad inside. Most of the white specks are nearly invisible.
