A REMINDER. That faint mark on the man’s rouged cheek was part of his flesh. Only he and his friends could have known what occurred to create the scar. He wasn’t shy about hiding it either, since he was posed for an archivally taped sixth plate knowing in advance that the mark would be visible. His maker created a wonderful loose bust portrait framed by that brass oval mat. Years ago I believe the silver was cleaned. Fortunately strong tones and great reflected depth were not altered. The sharply focused chap was definitely an angular human being. The piece has retarnished nicely adding natural colors. A couple mat marks are apparent. The bottom of a later leather case holds the gentleman’s likeness.
