BLACKENED EYES! They sure appear to have been brothers as they were seated arm-in-arm when a retaped sixth plate dag was taken in the early 1850s. Maybe they just concluded a successful run of entertaining at their local theater and forgot to remove all the eye shadow before being seated in front of the camera. Why else would two mature men have darkened eyes? Deep pigmentation could be another reason I guess. Those were fine chairs they were seated on with satin covered cushions! These fellows had huge chins and very long fingers! The changeable tonality is impressive but their reflected depth is almost so great that it lacks adequate interpretation. How about from here to the moon and back depth? Patina is heavier on the right side of the duo. That would be a dried water stain upper left. The leather case is apart.
