An older woman wore a white day cap for her formal sitting and she was very nicely posed by a talented daguerreian. Her dark dress was accented with a folded Paisley shawl that was worn off her shoulders. Her gnarled hands steadied what might have been a family bible while in one hand she clutched a folded pair of glasses. As you might imagine, with such a wide range of contrast, the archivally sealed sixth plate has resounding holographic depth. The matron’s twisted mouth might have been directed towards the operator or the ancient lady could have suffered from a bit of palsy. Her creased and furrowed face was a road map of her long lifetime! Happily, her portrait has survived with some small mold spiders, a brown dot on that tome and wavy tarnish around her. A tiny bit of leather is missing from the intact hinge.
