A REASON TO BE SERIOUS. Especially if the child was told to hold that daguerreotype of her dead mother! We will never know for sure but doesn?t the child?s harsh stare and tightly clamped lips strongly suggest her unhappiness with the arrangement? Yes, there is a colony of green spots lower right, mold mites in several places and some white spots. Yet, the strength of the child and the brilliance of her highly reflective resealed sixth plate dag far outweigh the flaws. I wonder if the person who selected the girl?s dress that had miniature hearts as part of the theme, was even aware of them? The gal is kept in a complete leather case with a delicate roses theme. She was taken circa 1846-1847. Red rouge was added to her cheeks.
