MOTHER WAS THE BOSS! She was an ample woman with a stern constitution no doubt yet her daughter’s body language suggested that she too would follow in her mom’s footsteps. The child’s tilted torso and direct stare at the camera was as impressive as her off the shoulder dress with a corseted bodice. I like the placement of the little girl’s hands, one on her parent’s shoulder and the other nestled in a pocket. The woman reached behind her kid to help keep her inside the double elliptical brass mat. Both the condition of the recently taped sixth plate and the tonality are impressive. As an aside, I am curious about the strange pattern of brightness beginning on the cloth near the gal’s shoulder that flowed behind her and traveled upwards past coils of dark hair. Their leather case with an older leather spine repair is later then the portrait.
