STILL SMILING! Although patina heavily encroaches upon the gentleman today, he still retains that pleasant partial smile and brightly shining eyes. That neatly knotted tie was really the only obvious element of flash in his conservative ensemble. On the day he was taken in sixth plate size, in the early 1850s, some event in his life had certainly made a positive impression. His maker was equal to the task and recorded his joyful countenance on this retaped mirror, dimmed by time but not extinguished. The man had the nicest neatly combed hair too. Back in his day, the chap would have been considered extremely handsome no doubt.
