Dramatic illumination with the main light entering the darkened space from the left plus outstanding contrast and reflected depth give life to the subject long after he had departed this earth. While he might have been a professional person and not accustomed to manual labor when he earned a living, there is no doubt in my mind that this guy could definitely handle himself in any situation. His entire demeanor screams out that he was a very robust self-confident character not to be trifled with at any cost. The maker’s ability to retain details in his patron’s dark clothing really was impressive. There are mat marks and wispy buff strokes in a couple places on the resealed sixth plate. The intact leather case is quite nice.
