DAUGHTER IN THE MIDDLE! Their daughter or maybe even a granddaughter towered above the aging couple who were seated across the bottom of an archivally taped sixth plate likeness. Does the phrase “how low could they go” and still be seen in this portrait come to mind. I have always enjoyed curious examples of daguerreotypy. The older lady looks more dead than alive. The man was actually leaning against the woman. He still seemed robust enough. Thankfully the youngster of the trio was rather normal in appearance and did her best to stay still. There are obvious mat scratches, spotty tarnish and a solitary line beginning on the gent’s chin that passes across the girl’s waist and ends on the female’s ribbon. The cover of their leather case is gone.
