UPTON . . . Was stamped on a diagonal across the lower right corner of the lady’s double elliptical brass mat. She wore a wonderful dag brooch that probably contained a likeness of her husband. Although someone else unkindly cleaned the silver years ago, the newly taped sixth plate still permits us to realize the quality that Benjamin Franklin Upton was capable of producing in his studio located in Bath Maine. He traveled westward after she was taken in the early 1850s, stopping in Chicago first then continuing west, making a name for himself in St. Anthony Minnesota after 1856. Lots of white dots are present. I like the woman who resides in a fine complete leather case.
