HAIRY FELLOW! He might have attempted to obscure a portion of his face underneath that thick beard but his large nose, small mouth and intense eyes were all still very notable when he posed for a bust portrait done on a retaped sixth plate. The narrow oval opening brass mat was so covered with green spots that I decided to reframe the gent with this example. Also, he would have been taken circa 1852 and the case he had been placed in was circa 1845. A proper complete leather case with a floral theme on the cover and a basket weave on the reverse contains his visage. Fine reflected depth and nice facial tinting (better than I could reproduce) don?t fail to impress. The surface has survived very well. A complete leather case has a deep red pad inside that had a flowery theme.
