“E. WHITE”! That was the information emblazoned on the banner flying across the top of a single masted sailing vessel reproduced on the cover of this complete sixth sized leather daguerreotype case. The reverse was plain. Inside is one of the oddest and poorest made copy dags that I have seen in years. Although admittedly, the “artist” saved the reproduction of the original from the scrap heap by using a clever palette of tints to make the golden haired man come alive by painting his head and huge bushy beard, adding red blush to his well defined cheeks and then splashing pale blue pigment on his lavish shirt that was lined with buttons! And since the sides were bent up, there are no mat scrapes or blemishes of any kind on the silver. He has a very gritty presence on his reproduced likeness!
