ODD ART! Strange was the first thought that entered my head when I opened the whole leather case and saw the sixth plate that has a new archival seal. What an arresting pose for a young child! Could this painting have been done from life or was the figure a figment of an artist’s imagination? Absolutely remarkable, lifelike tinting made the daguerreotype stunningly realistic! When the piece is turned to the negative, there is a milky haziness on either side of the subject. The reflected depth is impressive and the female is softly enclosed inside the oval mat with narrow oxidation. A telling factor about how compelling this image has been over the years, the leather underneath the latches is worn down to the wood. Inside, there is a deep brilliantly blue cushion with a nicely pressed floral and Arabesque design.
