THE ONLY REASON . . . That I decided to offer the resealed sixth plate daguerreotype, copied in the 1850s from an earlier original was the strength of the man?s character. Just think what his initial portrait must have been like. Even with the thin wipes, mold spiders, unruly tarnish and other specks, the guy still wants to reach out and touch me. What a powerful figure he must have been during his lifetime. Only the bottom of a leather case, with some of the leather missing remains. I write this on Halloween Eve and am tempted to flash the daguerreotype at any little ghoul or goblin that misbehaves. His visage plus chocolate would certainly create nightmarish dreams.
