OVER THERE! ?Jonnes Scott Penn Yann NY? was penciled in the bottom of the handsome fellow?s complete sixth plate case. Was Jonnes making an attempt at constructing a dramatic pose when he squared his torso to the camera?s lens and then boldly turned his face to the side? Maybe a swish of a skirt when the daguerreian?s teenaged daughter entered the operating room attracted his attention at the moment of truth. His flesh was covered with freckles and there are a few nearly invisible black specks too. Great light lit him so well that his facial features were three-dimensional. Rich blacks and bright whites covered the ends of the tonal range. That certainly was a large bowtie he had selected to wear for his restored image. Patina ebbs and flows with ease around Mr. Scott. The other spots are harmless.
