TALE OF THE TAPE! Holding this boy together at the time I purchased him on his sixth plate was a length of blue tape with this inscription: “W. Spooner about 1849”. Then written on off-white tape was: “Taken at Barre Mass”. I retained both pieces and left them attached to the reverse (see second scan). I suspect that either an operator in Barre or an itinerant might have taken the lad. He is light overall but the piece still presents the cute lad who sat remarkably still and stared straight ahead while the lens was uncovered. Although the spine is broken the leather case is in nice condition.
