THEIR ?LIFE STORY? . . . Was neatly printed on the red silk pad opposite the adorable and precocious little blonde girl, who must have worn a bright pink dress to Walker & Gavit’s Albany NY gallery. The men partnered together circa 1845-1846. The lyre theme on the cover of the complete leather case was most popular beginning in 1844. Looking at the child’s heavy naked plate it was impossible not to notice the long hallmark: “E. WHITE MAKER NY FINEST QUALITY A No 1.” During the daguerreian era, this particular plate was lauded my many as the ?finest?! The tot?s retaped sixth sized portrait was an exemplary example of what the two men were capable of producing in the capital city. Oxidation, a few mat scrapes, flecks and specks are visible. Nothing impedes my visual appreciation of the cute kid.
