“A. L. JENNEY HARWICH MASS”! Thank goodness, the bottom of the woman’s leather case remained since this is where the itinerant daguerreian’s information was written. While this exact name wasn’t listed in Craig’s, there was another Jenney working in nearby Middleboro MA a bit later than when the woman was taken circa 1847. I have seen enough 19th century inscriptions to be fairly certain the information didn’t pertain to the lady?s identity. She was posed in a rudimentary studio when her retaped sixth plate was taken. The contrast and reflected depth are both superlative! The illumination, while uninspired, somehow was extremely effective.
