This sixth plate ambrotype is a hoot. Was it done by the sitter or did the photographer know him and have a little fun before presenting this portrait to his friend? Whatever the case, the resulting scratched in extra hair and rings lets every person who opens the case have a good chuckle. The ambro comes in a case with a split spine. It is still sealed with what looks like original tape.
