“CHRISTMAS LIGHTS . . . 12-19-12 CAW” is etched across the bottom of this fabulous whole plate daguerreotype taken from the bandstand down town while the magic of the holidays were brightly emblazoned with colorful lights throughout Exeter NH. Casey has over matted his scene to 8 x 10 inches using a modern brass mat. Readers, I have watched my son progress as a daguerreotypist and I can honestly state that the holographic depth along with the awesome contrast is absolutely superlative. The balance of the composition, using the town tree on the left, flowing across the cylindrical shapes in the center, with the view into the well-lit windows (I wonder what was happening inside) and ending with the towering strings of bulbs on the right, is akin to the movement of a merry go round since there just isn’t one place to end while admiring the wintry tableau! There is a solitary scratch upper right! The silvery gem is offered without a frame.
