WILLIAM JENNINGS BRYAN SPEECHIFYING. I date this card to either 1896 or 1900. Both are years when Bryan, a famous orator, was running for President of the United States. The location is in front of what is now the Old State House. Both the State House (building with the columns) and the fountain are still there today. I have not identified any of the other people on the podium with Bryan, but they could be local dignitaries. Bryan failed in his presidential runs, but, thanks to the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial, he remains well known today. Although, of course, he was the anti-evolutionist and thus on the wrong side of history and science. The card is by Shinn of Little Rock and is in good condition with light marks and minor spotting, which you can see in the upper right.
