CLUTCHING HIS….. polka dotted vest, this man is about as engaging with the viewer as you will see in a daguerreotype from circa 1850. The resealed sixth plate is held in a nice case with a split spine. I will put on a new leather spine if the buyer desires. He was not a boastful bachelor, but bachelor nonetheless, so perhaps he was giving this fine dag to a perspective lady friend, looking for more than just a friend! I would imagine a proper courting back then would involve the exchange of portraits. I have a few great examples of images of all types with written inscriptions of a loving nature. I resealed this image back in 2007. He looks like a sharp character who paid attention to details. I’m not sure of or even if there is a significance to the pinky ring on a man’s hand. We do see it often as a fashion accessory, so this could just be what most distinguishing men wore to add a little flare! The image has a great warm tone and is in fine condition.
