Surely, this young lad was proud of his abilities deciphering the written word. I wager that he insisted on showing his best reading pose for the daguerreotype camera. The maker who took this excellent sixth plate was adept in his abilities in the art of daguerreotypy. He likely realized that his subject’s arm needed a bit of propping up with the aid of a few books. The lighting as and posing is top notch, yet the lad could not remain completely as still as a statue. His head is slightly blurred from a minuscule movement. Even with that minor imperfection, this is a wonderful image on silver. The plate was resealed with filmoplast at an unknown time by someone else.
