Boys in Blue……

In this sixth plate ambrotype, the fashionable boys proudly show off new cases.  Props such as cases or books, even a handkerchief were often used to help “steady” a sitter.  Sometimes the case or cases held are the actual cases that the images are held in. With this one it is tough to tell as the focus is more on the boys than the cases. The image is held in a case split at the spine, and possibly could be one of those cases. I have resealed and repainted the backer of the image. The condition is very good with some light spotting that is customary in most ambros. I like how their outfits kind of match but not quite, maybe signaling that they’re brothers but not twins.
