The maker was William Hardy Kent, who began his career in New York City before going to London in 1854 and opening three galleries. This image is from the gallery at 147 Oxford St. The housing (case & protector) is American and other than the ID, I would have assumed it was an American image. Perhaps he brought supplies from the US to the UK? The image is well-made and has a great reflective depth. The standing woman smiles at us while her friend looks like she may have wanted to try. Their ribbons and skin tones are tinted pink. The image has a spot above the standing woman’s head and some teeny ones noticeable in the dark background.
