This is a curious, reused sixth plate with a shadow behind the fellow that suggests the first image was unacceptable but then not polished completely off the silver. The gent wore a star pin, which was a piece of jewelry I think and not a badge. The freckle faced fellow is kept in a complete leather case. The dag is in very good condition. At some angles the shadow shows strongly; at others, not at all.
