The remarkable sixth plate dag begs many questions. Although the surface has serious mat abrasions, I couldn?t resist a purchase. An amateur daguerreian probably made his/her exposure circa 1848. The hallmark on the plate is NP 40. It is in a complete leather case with an absolutely unique theme. Before the plate was resealed Casey removed heavy tarnish that covered the surface from a previous cleaning. The textures in the wood, the magnificent blue solarized sky and also those metallic plates in the foreground provided natural colors. Of course, you are wondering like I still am why did the daguerreian leave that out of focus slice of building on the left side. Composition (?) of course! This plate is absolutely magical in hand.
