The fully restored sixth plate daguerreotype that presented a pensive man resting his head against his fist is displayed in a fine thermoplastic frame with the original brass ring still intact (see second scan). The colorful bands of patina flank the gent’s unusual pose. One might inquire was this the operator seated in front of his own camera while an assist pulled the wooden dark slide to make the exposure? The relaxed attitude he assumed is quite refreshing compared to the myriad of boring likenesses we are forced to examine. As you can see, the buffing above the man’s head was less than perfect. The remainder of the specks certainly doesn’t affect the subject.
