As you can see, the photographer got the exposure correct for her face in the left hand image, but not quite the one on the right. What images though! Perhaps the woman was ill? As each of these quarter plate images still has tape on the back and evidence of a mat, I’d say they were in cases until perhaps recently. Each has some light marks. The left one has one heavy scratch at the lower right and the other has a minor bend at the lower left.
